Rajshahi: Rajshahi University students for the third consecutive day on Tuesday continued demonstration in the campus demanding reforms of the existing quota system in government recruitment tests, including BCS examinations.

Several hundred protesters brought out a procession in front of the central library around 11:45am and paraded different roads in the campus chanting slogans.

Besides, the students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) brought out a rally on Dhaka-Natore highway pressing home their demand.

When they tried to take position on the road, police dispersed them, foiling their attempt to block the highway.

Earlier, the protesters postponed their movement until May 7 following the assurance from the government to bring ‘logical reform’ in the existing quota system.

Meanwhile, a group of protesters turned down the decision and vowed to continue it until their demands are met, escalating a fresh tension on the University campus.

On February 17, students and job seekers started the movement to press for their five-point demand that include introduction of unified age limit in government jobs, review of quota system in government recruitment process, including Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination, stopping taking benefit by job seekers under the same quota, filling vacant posts from merit list if the candidates from quota are not found and fixation of 10 percent quota instead of existing 56 per cent.
