Dhaka: The hearing on a writ petition filed with the High Court seeking its directives to engage Bangladesh Army in conducting voting, counting votes and publishing results of the 11th parliamentary elections will be held after the polls billed for December 30.

An HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Khairul Alam passed the order on Wednesday, said writ petitioner Eunus Ali Akando and Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Sazu, reports the UNB.

Court sources said the regular activities of the Supreme Court will begin on January 2 after its vacation. The hearing on the writ will be held after the vacation.

Eunus, a Supreme Court lawyer and Jatiya Party candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency in the election, filed the writ on December 23.

In the petition, he prayed to the court to issue a rule as to why the failure of conducting the election with Election Commission’s own staff should not be declared illegal and why directives should not be given to engage army in conducting voting, counting votes and publishing results of the 11th parliamentary elections.

The petitioner also appealed for asking in the rule as to why the use of the photograph of the chief of a party and its election symbol by a candidate of another party in alliance should not be declared illegal.
