Besides, about six people were injured in different incidents of lightning strikes and Kalbaishakhi, which also claimed lives of over 100 cattle and destroyed 400 houses.

Mymensingh

At least five people, including two schoolboys, were killed and six injured by lightning in Debaura, Haluaghat and Phulpur upazilas of Mymensingh on Thursday.

The deceased were Delwar Hossain, a class III student of Gujirkandi Government Primary School; Mosarraf Hossain, class VII student of Babykura Junior School of Debaura; 50-year-old Jamsed Ali from Baniakanda village; Rubel, who is reportedly in this thirties, from the village Kuruapara in Haluaghat upazila; and

Kafil Uddin, who is believed to be sixty years of old, was from Damarvita village in Phulpur upazila.

In Debuara, Mosharraf and Delwar died on the spot when they were struck by a bolt of lightning at about 9:00am. The incident also left three others injured, said Debuara police officer-in-charge Abdul Haque.

Haluaghat police officer-in-charge Jakiur Rahman said Jamsed and Rubel died on the spot and three others were injured as lightning struck them when they were working on the field at about 10:00am.

Meanwhile in Phulpur, one Kafil Uddin, who was a fisherman by profession, of Dhonar Bhita village was killed by lightning.

Sunamganj

In Sunamganj, two farmers—Hossain Ali, 50, of Kanchanpur village of Dharmapasha upazila and Andul Jalil of Mollahpara village of Tahirpur upazila—died on the spot as thunderbolts hit them during a storm.

Besides, a housewife was killed as the wall of her house collapsed during a storm at Bhatipara village in Dirai upazila in Sunamganj in the morning. The storm also lashed three other upazilas of the district.

Jamalpur

A farmer was killed by lightning strike in Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj on Thursday morning.

Montu Miah, who was around 56, was reportedly working in a rice field near his house during rain when a bolt of lightning struck him at about 11:30 am, said police and the locals.
