Jessore: Four people, including two female students and a teacher, were killed and 18 others injured as a picnic bus plunged in Chougachha upazila in Jessore on Wednesday night.

Two of the deceased are Jahurul Islam, a teacher of Ramakrishna High School in the upazila, and assistant to the driver, Milon.

The Chougachha Police Officer-in-charge Mohammad Masiur Rahman said a group of teachers, students and guardians of Ramakrishna High School were going to a picnic in Dinajpur.

The bus turned turtle in Danbox area on the road at about 9:15pm after it crashed into a roadside tree as its driver lost his control over the steering, leaving Jahurul and Milon dead on the spot and 20 other picnickers injured.

The injured were taken to Chougachha Upazila Health Complex where two female students died, said sub-inspector Waheduzzaman of the police station.
Six of the badly injured were later shifted to Jessore General Hospital, he said.
