DU set to stage 50th Convocation on March 4

Dhaka: Dhaka University is set to stage its 50th Convocation on March 4 conferring graduate and post graduate degrees on 18,000 students passed after the 49th convocation.
President Abdul Hamid, Chancellor of the university, will chair the convocation while Professor Amit Chakma, Bangladesh born academician and vice-chancellor of Western University of Canada will give the convocation speech.
Dhaka University (DU) will confer Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree on Amit Chakma while DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique will address it.
The convocation will take place at the university's central playground in the morning on March 4.
The DU VC will brief to the media about the convocation on March 2 at 12 noon at vice-chancellor office adjacent lounge.
The participants have already started taking photographs wearing dark black gowns, ties and hats across the campus as the distribution of convocation costumes started today and will continue to March 2.
The entire university wore a festive look marking the convocation. Convocation gates have been set up at the entry points of the university.
The participants are seen to take snaps at Teacher-Student Centre, Curzon Hall, Arts Faculty building, Aparajeyo Bangla, Raju Memorial Sculpture, Senate Bhaban and all over the campus.
The intending participants will take took part in a rehearsal for the convocation at 2.30pm on March 3 at the physical education centre playground.
Led by Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, deans of different faculties, members of senate, syndicate and academic councils, directors of institutes and principals of different affiliate colleges participated in the rehearsal parading from Curzon Hall premises.
A total of 18,000 graduates will take part in the convocation. Some 94 graduates including teachers will get gold medals for their outstanding academic results and research activities while 61 will receive PhD and 42 M.Phil degrees.
