Lakshmipur: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the main accused in the gang-rape of a young girl after abduction from a bus at Jaksin Bazar on the Lakshmipur-Dhaka Road in the town early Saturday.

The arrestee was Arif Hossain of Rajibpur village in the sadar upazila.

Tipped off, a team of Rab intercepted a bus of ‘Jonaki Paribahan’ and arrested Arif early in the morning, said Rab deputy director Major ZM Sakib Siddique.

On 29 June, Arif Hossain along with 4/5 people picked up the young girl into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at gunpoint and took her to an abandoned house in Rajibpur area of sadar upazila in the evening.

Later they raped the girl by turn at a house keeping her confined there for three days.

A team of detectives rescued the young girl and sent her to sadar hospital for treatment on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the victim filed a case with Sadar Police Station accusing Arif, Rajib and three others.
